Entrance hall and Dining room - These spaces were designed to flow together therefore when considering the scheme the same treatment was used at each window to bring the space together. Having lots of hard surfaces and open spaces the choice of fabric was important so as to create a balance, reduce noise and create a warm welcome on arrival. This Velvet appliquéd linen from Mulberry Home was selected from several options singled out for the area used to show stopping effect and to address the proportions of the windows unifying the whole space. The bespoke trimmings and tiebacks were made by dying silk thread to match the colours within the fabric. The dining chairs were commissioned through RD Interior Design using two velvet patterned fabrics one on each alternate chair. The Roger Oates stair runner was specified to co- ordinate with the red in the curtains and to continue the feeling of unity leading up to the first floor. All of the above items are available from the RD Interior Design showroom in Alcester nr Stratford upon Avon Warwickshire.
Kitchen – The client’s love of the countryside is reflected in this simply beautiful fabric with country scenes featuring dogs and horses. The fabrics base colour blends seamlessly with the window paint drawing the gaze uninterrupted to the views of the surrounding countryside. Trim and tiebacks were sourced from GPJ Baker and Sacho for their simplicity therefore complimenting the fabrics design.
Drawing room – Incorporating the clients existing furniture RD Interior Design built a scheme using the existing sofas as a starting point. The red colour was continued through from the entrance hall and dining room however here an embroidered GPJ Baker silk was used to dress the bay and large front window. The small windows at either side of the fireplace were dressed using plain silks and an exquisite trim from Mulberry Home trimmings collection, tying in perfectly the red and gold of the main windows. UV screen film was applied to the windows to prevent the dark silks fading in the direct sunlight. RD Interior Design commissioned the over mantle mirror to have antiqued mirror glass and an aged and distressed gold finish on the mirrors frame. The two deep buttoned footstools were also commissioned to be made by RD Interior Design to enlarge the appearance of the lovely rustic table belonging to the clients. The stools can be moved and used as tables, footstools and extra seating when needed.
Study – Here the feel of a funked up traditional study was the aim! The overall mood is dark and traditional however the Cole and Son wallpaper featuring books used in conjunction with the animal print paper on the remaining walls and striking zebra print on the desk chair creates a fun eclectic mix. The use of dark wood blinds gives a nod to a colonial/safari style. The bespoke rug commissioned by RD Interior Design from Crucial Trading is beautifully textured in a dark bronze seagrass bound with leather. Continuing the use of leather RD Interior Design commissioned the ceiling light fitting in leather with a gilt interior and blind pelmet using the same textured leather. The desk chair was made with dark legs to suit the scheme and Rachel specified the Zebra print fabric commissioned through RD Interior Design.
Staircase and Landing – With the red stair runner leading up from the ground floor a touch of red was needed on the landing with a change of overall colour scheme from the red used on the first floor. The chocolate brown silk embroidered with an Indian style pattern featuring colours with a jewel like quality was the perfect choice as it is as strong in impact as the ground floor scheme creating a feeling of consistency throughout the house. The woollen tartan seat cushion made for the clients blanket box contrasts the glamour of the silk with a touch of rustic country. The overall scheme provides the perfect backdrop for the client’s art collection.
Family Bathroom – Used by the client’s children it was decided to go for something bold and fun. This bold fish wallpaper from Nina Campbell finished the bathroom perfectly teamed with a bird and striped fabric at the window which was dressed asymmetrically in order to draw the eye away from the tiled boxing in.
Master bedroom – The client chose this stunning fabric for the bedroom as one fallen in love with in RD Interior Designs showroom. This was taken as the starting point in this room. The French silk is beautifully heavy and soft and has a beautiful drape to it making it the perfect choice for the large curtains needed on the doors and windows. The smaller windows were too small to curtain and so blinds were perfect. The cushions and bed valance in the trimmings and different fabrics used to tie the scheme together.
Master En-suite - The bathroom required decorating to create a more welcoming space. RD Interior Design commissioned a polished plaster finish in a delicate pearlescent gold for the backdrop to the hand painted bird on tree mural. The effect is something special and having a varnished finish is a perfect and durable alternative to wallpaper. Particularly in a small bathroom where damp may disrupt any wallpaper used. The silk voile curtain softens the window, the blind was made using a plain gold silk and some of the silk voile band was placed on the edge as a trim to tie the treatment together and again soften the window.
