Features

Entrance hall stairs and landing – This beautiful polished plaster effect paper from Mulberry Home was chosen from RD Interior Design’s showroom for its depth and quality of colour, providing the perfect back ground for the various light fittings, bespoke shades and artwork on display. The subtle mix of textures used in the hallway creates an inviting entrance the stairs balustrade was updated by painting of the dark wood finish to lighten the entrance hall. A new wool loop pile carpet was specified and used throughout for flow and consistency.

Cloak room – Bespoke cabinetry was designed and commissioned to house the cistern, provide storage and to mount the wash basin into. The amber glass handles pick out the amber tones in butterfly wallpaper and  window pelmet. The chocolate brown stone composite top and shimmer voile also tie in with the details on the wallpaper, glass mosaic tiles and glass beads on the bottom edge of the pelmet. A small glass light shade was used with a minimum chain drop.

Drawing room – The pale blue damask paper from Ralph Lauren, available through RD Interior Designs showroom, provides an elegant backdrop to the clients existing furniture. The off white within the pattern and the woodwork prevents the use of pale blue in the room from being too cool. RD Interior Design reupholstered all existing furniture and commissioned a second footstool to be made for use alongside the clients existing one. The stools are used as a large table when positioned side by side, or as footstools separately in front of the sofas. Both stools are covered in Mulberry Homes flying duck printed linen available through RD Interior Designs Alcester showroom – near Stratford upon Avon) The pleated and the hand painted lampshades were made to order using silks to compliment the scheme. To add architectural detail bookcases were commissioned by RD Design to add weight to the room and these were designed to house the radiators out of sight.

Dining room – A feature was made of the main window in the room with this sumptuous linen and velvet damask fabric from Mulberry Home and bespoke trimming and tiebacks commissioned by RD Interior Design in colours taken from the fabric. The small side windows have simple silk blinds designed to pick out just the right texture in the wallpaper and the trim, so as to disappear visually when drawn in the evening. RD Interior Design specified the paintwork to be painted darker here than elsewhere in the house to create a muted tone complimenting the wallpaper. The stunning wall lights act a wall sculpture balancing the curtains, drawing the eye out to the width of the room. An arrangement is made of the radiator cover, new wall lights and the clients existing paintings and again on the other side of the room - using lamps with bespoke silk shades chosen to add a splash of red to the wall.

Master bedroom – The luxurious master bedroom scheme has a touch of the oriental in the oriental tree wallpaper. The wallpaper design was taken from an exquisite, early 20th century Chinese wallpaper featuring the soft shapes of old weeping cherry trees, the fine brush strokes of which appear hand painted. Rachel selected a blossom tree embroidered silk to compliment the paper. The dark teal geometric adds a contrast to both. The mixture of patterns in the room work to create a smart and cosy decorated feel. RD Interior Design have a great understanding of how patterns, colours and textures can be bought together which is evident in this room. Heavy textured silk that keeps it shape perfectly is used on the bedcover, geometric woven fabrics on the ottoman and slipper chair add contrast to the delicate wallpaper and embroidered silk. The trims, rope door knobs and painted wardrobe doors add texture to the scheme. All of the room’s items were chosen from ranges by GPJ Baker, Mulberry Home, Osborne and Little and Colefax and Fowler available from RD Interior Designs Showroom in Alcester – near Stratford upon Avon Warwickshire. The silk carpet is beautifully soft under foot and provides a luxurious base to the room and a perfect sheen to echo the background of the wallpaper.

En-suite - The paper and blossom embroidered silk is continued into the en-suite. The bathroom was fully refurbished and layout redesigned to incorporate a large shower. Pale gold stone composite was chosen to compliment the master suites scheme and provides an elegant warm glow within the space. The bespoke cabinetry was designed to house the sanitary ware and appear as classic painted furniture rather than bathroom cabinetry, the glass handles add a beautiful texture and are pleasing to the touch, the silver back plates tie in the chrome bathroom fittings to the furniture.

Guest bedroom – This rooms striking orchid wallpaper from Cole and Son (available through RD Interior Design) formed the starting point for this room’s scheme. Blinds and pelmets were made up using three silks the colours of which were taken from the orchid wallpaper. The addition of the shell trim to the edge of the blinds by Designers Guild provides the perfect finishing touch. New glass lamps and silver candlestick lamps were commissioned for this room in the same silk as the blinds which succeed in placing the accent colour within the room.

Bathrooms and en-suites – The same natural limestone was used though out the rooms for continuity the soft colour and rustic texture contrast beautifully with modern bathroom fittings and cabinetry in dark wood colours. The glass mosaic was used to add a contrast to the stone and tie in the dark wood finishes.

Childs bedroom- The curtains and accessories were designed and made up from trims and fabrics selected from RD Interior Design Showroom (in Alcester near Stratford upon Avon Warwickshire) Rachel chose this beautiful range of children’s fabrics for supply through her showroom from a French company who she believes have got the children’s fabric and wallpaper designs and colour shades spot on. The polka dot pattern on the paper is repeated in these very pretty curtains used with a check fabric, which is repeated in the blinds and cushions. A sweet little mouse embroidery fabric from the same range of children’s fabrics and wallpapers is used on the cushions and the bespoke lampshade. Trims for this scheme were selected from the Salcombe range of trimmings from GPJ Baker.
